Motivation Management: 7 Ways To Motivate Your Middle School Student

February 27, 2009

In order for your middle school student to succeed within the educational process, it is important for parents to work on motivation management at home and in so doing encourage their children to do the best that they can. Here I have provided seven simple steps toward motivating your middle school student. By instilling proper motivational strategies, your student will have the drive and desire to achieve beyond their wildest imagination.

1. Show love and patience

As parents, we need to make patience and love a top priority. Displaying this love and patience sets the stage for how they as students receive and retain educational information. Foundational support and verbal encouragement are key elements in motivation management and helping your child to develop interests and skills that he/she will use in their lifetime.

2. Provide boundaries

Provide and encourage boundaries. Talk with your child about certain TV programs, video games and music. Be aware of your child’s friends and activities that they engage in. Guide them in helping to decide on how to make good decisions about their lives.

3. Be a role model

Be an example for your child by showing a continued interest in their education. Encourage them to develop proper and fruitful study and organizational skills. Don’t hesitate to communicate to them that you are also in a continual process of education in your parenting and career skills.

4. Teach responsibility

Teach accountability and responsibility. Provide areas of attainable goals and teach your child to complete the tasks they have set out to accomplish. Reward finished tasks and encourage continual growth.

5. Give variety

Offer a varied range of life experiences. Life is never just vanilla. Help them to realize the wonderful variety of subjects that education has to offer. Utilize resources for fresh and fulfilling educational memories.

6. Acknowledge peer pressure

Keep abreast of life’s hazards of potential negative behavior. Culture continues to offer potentially harmful activities. Know the pressures your child does face on a daily basis. Help them to distinguish between helpful and harmful endeavors.

7. Talk with your child

Communication is key. Always realize that your child faces many issues that are of supreme importance to them. As their parent, they look to you for understanding and guidance. Be honest and humble. Never be afraid to communicate to them that you don’t always know the answer. But do assure them that you will always search for a resolution. Listen even if you don’t share their intensity. Motivation management starts at home.

Teaching and molding our children to be involved in their education is not an easy task, but once achieved can create a lifetime of learning and success. This is especially important for middle school aged children who are at such a crucial time in their lives. They are at a crossroads where the decisions that they make may dictate what level of educational success they experience in the future.

We all need to constantly remind ourselves that we are not perfect, nor does our child expect us to be. But if we attempt to utilize available resources for guiding and encouraging our middle school children, we hopefully will see them succeed in the educational process and in life itself.

What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent?

February 26, 2009

FSM is used to treat nerve and muscle pain and many other conditions using specific frequencies and micro amperage current. There are hundreds of practitioners in the US, Australia and Canada using FSM to create remarkable changes in patients to reduce pain and improve health. Most of the time FSM produces immediate dramatic changes in tissue that make it an indispensable tool in treating pain and many other health concerns.

For example, there is one frequency that is only useful for shingles and herpes. In the shingles prodrome it eliminates the pain and prevents the blisters from breaking out. In herpes outbreaks it eliminates the pain and heals the blisters in hours with only a one hour treatment. This frequency combination is only good for this purpose and is not useful for anything else. We have not found anyone it does not work on or any other condition for which it is useful. In a blind animal study the frequency to reduce inflammation succeeded more effectively than any drug ever tested in this animal model. No other frequency reduced inflammation at all. The frequency specific effect is remarkable and reproducible.

Micro current is current in millionths of an ampere. An ampere is a measure of the movement of electrons past a point. Microamperage current is the same kind of current your body produces on its own within each cell. This is current in millionths of an amp. It is very small; there is not enough current to stimulate sensory nerves so the current flow cannot be felt but can be monitored using the conductance meter on the machine.

The History of FSM

Microcurrent was first used in the 1980s by physicians in Europe and the US for stimulating acupuncture points, stimulating healing in injured athletes and stimulating bone repair in non-union fractures.

Who is Dr. Carolyn McMakin?

Dr. McMakin developed protocols for the treatment of myofascial pain in 1996 and presented her clinical data at the American Back Society national meeting in December 1997. She published a paper on the “Treatment of chronic resistant myofascial pain in the head neck and face.” in 1998 in Topics in Clinical Chiropractic. Dr. McMakin began teaching FSM in 1997 to see if the effects of FSM were reproducible. By June of 1997 it was clear that the effects were reproducible in the differential diagnosis of pain generators and neurologic conditions.

Originally developed in the early 1900s, Microcurrent was introduced as a battery operated therapy modality in the 1980s and Microcurrent devices deliver frequencies and current in millionths of an amp and have been shown in published studies to increase energy production in cells by 500%.

Frequency protocol development began in 1995 and Dr. McMakin began teaching FSM in 1997. Since then hundreds of practitioners around the world have taken the studied FSM and use this amazing technique to help patients recover from myofascial pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, concussion and many other health concerns.

Protocols for treating neuropathic pain were developed by Dr. McMakin in 1998. In 1999 she then developed a protocol for treating the full body pain from fibromyalgia caused by neck injuries. The paper was published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement therapies in July of 2005.

It documents unheard of changes in inflammatory cytokines and neuropeptides with the use of a specific frequency protocol and microcurrent application.

Dr. McMakin has spoken at fibromyalgia conferences and medical and complementary medical meetings around the US, Europe and Australia. She presented the cervical trauma fibromyalgia treatment data at the National Institutes of Health.

How Is Frequency Specific Microcurrent Delivered?

February 26, 2009

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) uses a device manufactured by Precision Microcurrent Inc. It has two independent channels that allow you to set both the frequency and the current independently for each channel and was developed in 1990 by an engineer named Glen Smith. He created unique circuitry that allows for long battery life and frequencies that are precise to three digits to .1% accuracy.

Frequencies are measured in hertz or pulses per second. The frequencies are used on two channels and it makes a difference what channel you put which frequency on. The frequency thought to neutralise the condition is put on Precision channel A or on the channel that fires first. The frequency thought to address the tissue is put on channel B.

There are frequencies for over 200 conditions from very common conditions like inflammation and scar tissue and mineral deposits and toxicity to very unusual and hard to document conditions.

There are a few frequencies that are used as A/B pairs. A is not a condition, B is not a tissue but the combination of the two frequencies has the therapeutic effect. There is one such frequency combination that takes away shingles pain. When it is used before the blisters break out for an hour a day for three days, the pain is gone in 20 minutes and the blisters never break out. When it is used after the blisters break out it takes the pain away and shortens the course of the shingles. Shingles is the only thing this specific frequency is good for and so far there is no one it hasn’t worked on.

What can I treat with FSM ?

The frequencies appear to change a variety of conditions and tissues and change pain and function in a large number of clinical conditions. FSM is especially good at treating nerve and muscle pain, inflammation and scar tissue. There is a kind of fibromyalgia associated with neck trauma that is particularly painful and hard to treat even with narcotics. There is one frequency protocol that is effective for taking away this kind of pain. There is one frequency combination that so far is 100% effective in a small number of cases to take away kidney stone pain. The frequencies have created observed effects in asthma, liver dysfunction, irritable bowel and many other conditions. It has been observed that patients who are treated within four hours of a new injury including auto accidents and surgeries have much reduced pain and a greatly accelerated healing process.

There are no guarantees that any protocol is going to be effective in any given patient on any given condition. In general, the frequencies either work or don’t work and if they don’t work they simply have no effect. Every practitioner is trained in the concept that FSM is to be used as an adjunct to therapeutics appropriate to their discipline for the patient after proper diagnosis.

It is NOT recommended that the frequencies be used to treat cancer as this condition is too serious and too complicated to be addressed without traditional medical intervention.

What are the frequencies used ?

Frequency protocols are sequences of frequencies observed to have a certain clinical effect in various conditions as determined in Dr. McMakin’s practice and by input from other FSM practitioners. The sequences of frequencies are taught in the course and the students are provided with a summary sheet of frequencies and the most common protocols at the end of the FSM course.

The frequency to reduce inflammation was studied in an animal research laboratory at University of Sydney in Australia. This frequency when combined with the frequency to address the blood and immune system reduced lipoxygenase mediated inflammation better than any drug ever tested in this animal model. The frequency reduced swelling by 62% and the medications reduced it by 45%. No other frequency tested reduced inflammation at all. The frequency worked in every animal with a time dependent response. 50% of the effect was present at 2 minutes, 100% of the effect was present at 4 minutes. This is the only frequency that has been studied in an animal model making the effects and the implications very important. The research is being prepared for publication in a peer reviewed journal.

Discount Textbooks

February 26, 2009

Textbook can be one of the dirtiest word in a college student’s vocabulary. Not only are they cumbersome to read and carry, they also tend to be very expensive. At $50 to $150 a piece, textbooks tend to be the one thing many students refrain from buying in an effort to save much needed money.

There are a few ways to get around paying full price for books, especially those textbooks that you are only going to use for a couple of months before trying to sell them back to the school for significantly less than you paid. A few helpful suggestions when it comes to locating and purchasing cheap textbooks will help you save a lot of money this school year.

First and foremost, you must avoid college bookstores like the plague. No matter what your school of thought may be, institutes of higher learning are out to make a profit just like everyone else and the school bookstore is good part of their regular income. Required texts are ridiculously overpriced even when they sport a “USED” sticker on the front of them. That just means that the school bought back the textbook from a previous student for pennies on the dollar before reinflating its price to sell back to you.

No matter what your financial aid status is, the best advice I can give is to shop around online before purchasing a single text. For those of you who are lucky enough to have books included in your scholarship package, disregard what I’m going to say next. Beg, borrow or steal but don’t pay any more than you have to for college textbooks.

Cheap texts can be obtained through a variety of methods. Some online retailers offer deep discounted books to their customers. Get a list of all the required texts and their ISBN numbers from your college or university. Then hit the web for some real bargains. Inexpensive texts can be purchased relatively easy. There are numerous sites designed for this purpose alone. A quick web search will help you identify which companies are legitimate and carry the lowest priced books.

An even more revolutionary idea is to sell or trade books with fellow students. Post flyers around campus and watch the money come in. Charge a fair price and you’re guaranteed to sell whatever books you have lying around from the previous semester. Use electronic bulletin boards, social networking sites, and peer based websites to locate, purchase, and trade all of your required texts for the semester. This will save you cash and the hassle of standing in long lines at your college’s bookstore.

Websites, like these, take the guesswork out of trading, buying and selling textbooks online. With a low resale value, why pay more than you have to? Smart students know where to go to find quality used textbooks online and they are often the first to tell their friends about their bargains. With several years of college expenses mounting up, it pays to be savvy shopper.

The Text Book King Website is one of those places where you can find all the Discount Textbooks you need at the lowest prices available online. We offer used textbooks by incorporating Wholesale and Discount sales as well as offering Direct Sales from other students.

Easy Science Fair Projects Kids Can Do

February 26, 2009

Doing science fair projects should be fun for the kids. Here is one of our easy science fair projects kids can do that is fun. It needs very little supplies, it also needs very little work, but it will need a little time. It is very easy though and if you have the time the kids will get a trill out of it.

In this experiment kids are going to look at how organic matter decomposes. Your kid will see that soil teems with life such as worms, slugs, millipedes and beetles that feed on the decaying matter. The decomposers are microscopic bacteria, fungi, woodlice, mites and small insects. This decomposing is the process where all organic material is turned into rich fertilizer for the growing plants in the soil.

This project actually consists of two easy science fair projects for the kids to do. The first your kid is going to look at the conditions needed for the decomposing process and in the second your kid is going to look at the decomposers.

Remember to make meticulous notes from your hypothesis to your conclusion and for your display purposes it is a good idea to take photos of each step as you go.

Having a look at the optimal conditions for the decomposing process:

What you need:

* A trowel

* Good soil

* Dead leaves

* Water and a watering can

* Two clean plastic containers, one with a tight lid

* Tags

* Pen

* Note book

* Camera

* Plastic gloves

This is what you have to do:

Wear your gloves for both of these experiments

1. Remember your notes and photos

2. Using your trowel fill the two plastic containers three quarters full with dry soil

3. Place a layer of dead leaves on top of the soil in both containers

4. Mark the container with the lid “A” and the other “B”

5. Now you water the soil and the leaves in your container marked “A” thoroughly and press the lid on

6. Keep the soil and leaves in the container marked “B” dry, do not add any water to it

7. Place both containers in a dry place and wait a few weeks

8. Have a look at both and you will notice that the leaves in the wet soil will have begun to rot while the leaves in the dry soil has dried and shriveled.

In the next experiment that is the second of our easy science fair projects for kids to do we are going to look at the decomposers.

What you will need:

* Once again your plastic gloves

* A plastic funnel

* A large clear jar with a neck into which the funnel will fit

* Some rotting leaves from a compost heap

* Black paper

* Sticky tape

* A desk lamp

* A magnifying glass

* A field guide

* A notebook

* A pen

* A camera

This is what you have to do:

1. The plan is to see the insects on the rotting leaves

2. You are going to separate them by using a lamp, a funnel and a large jar

3. Place the funnel in the jar

4. Wearing your gloves loosely fill the funnel with your rotting leaves

5. To keep out the light, you have to tape the black paper around the sides of the jar so it is dark inside the jar
